StarMade - Space Sattions Preview
6/03/2012
StarMade is a MineCraft style space shooter, it's being developed by a 1 man team & is currently playable in its Alpha stage, more information after the jump.
Here is what makes StarMade different from other space games:
- StarMade was programmed from the scratch to be multiplayer. I think, if you put multiplayer in later, it will take a lot of time and effort, and you probably have to redesign a lot of your code. StarMade already is multiplayer.
- Platform independence: StarMade runs on Linux, Windows and Mac
- Fair price: The Alpha is free (3$ to already pre-buy the game, but that's only for people, that want to support the game)
- StarMade was programmed for maximal performance to display as big structures as possible, and therefore is not trying to visually impress.
- Real block-to-block physics using the awesome 'bullet' library. In StarMade you could theoretically build a carrier with ships flying inside the carrier, or reenact the StarWars death star battle.
- Unique way to build your ship: A lot of other projects seem to use the classic minecraft "place block from 1st person view" approach. StarMade's approach is to let the player build the ship from the inside (as you can see in the video).
If you're looking to play the game head over to the official website & follow the developer on twitter.
