PC Gaming Weekly - Blizzard's Warcraft
8/01/2019I remember a friend of mine handing me a demo of Warcraft: Orcs and Humans not long after everyone rang in the New Year in 1995. I like strategy games, but Warcraft was different – it was the first real-time strategy I’d played.
And I was hooked. And I’ve been playing Blizzard Entertainment games ever since. (Diablo being my favorite franchise in the company’s stable.)
Blizzard is celebrating two milestones: Warcraft is 25 years old this year, and World of Warcraft turns 15. We talked with Blizzard president J. Allen Brack (a former executive director for World of Warcraft), Samwise Didier (the company’s best-known artist) and Kaeo Miller (who’s been working on Blizzard games since Warcraft III expansion Reign of Chaos in 2001). They talked about where one of gaming’s biggest and most important franchises has been, where it’s going, and preserving its history. They also touch on the upcoming launch of World of Warcraft Classic, an alternative that takes Azeroth back to the days before it knew the word “expansion.”
And I’m looking forward to the remaster of Warcraft III, which is also coming out later this year.
Do you have any special Warcraft memories? Please drop me a line – or tweet me. I’d love to hear about them.
