PC Gaming Weekly - Steam's best sellers games list
8/01/2019For the first time that I can remember, Valve released a list of the month’s best-sellers on Steam, its digital game store and community. The list isn’t in order from highest to lowest, and Valve didn’t say which game moved the most copies, but it’s a good snapshot of what’s hot on Steam.
A few things stood out for me:
- Zanki Zero: Last Beginning (Spike/Chunsoft): This quirky blend of survival and turn-based role-playing game shows that PC remains a fantastic platform for Japanese studios who focused more on consoles in the past
- Totally Accurate Battle Simulator (Landfall): This silly game with a silly name embraces two strong portions of PC gaming culture: Interesting games that do different things, and fun games to stream.
- Driftland: The Magic Revival (Star Drifters): I’ve tinkered with this fantasy strategy game, and it’s giving me big vibes akin to Warlock 2. You’re island-hopping, magically (of course), using your powerful spells to defeat your enemies. We haven’t seen a good fantasy strategy game in some time.
- Mordhau (Triternion): This is the next game on my “must play” list. It’s about combat with swords, axes, polearms, bows, and other medieval weapons. But it’s not a fantasy game, and it stands out from Ubisoft’s For Honor by giving players more choice in arms and armor.
This list showcases an amazing variety of games, big and small, triple-A and indie. It’s fantastic to see. It’s helping me find new games, and I hope Steam continues to show what’s succeeding on its platform. I’d be even happier if Valve breaks this down further to show the 10 best-sellers for each genre.
