PC Gaming Weekly - New PC Games

It’s the final week of August, but it sure looks like the fall game rush is in full swing – Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey, Astral Chain, Control, The Dark Pictures: Man of Medan, and Remnant: From the Ashes all came out this week. I’ve been spending my evenings play working on a review, and we’re still covering new announcements.

And folks said it was going to be a quiet year because of the lull that comes ahead of new consoles.

One of the most intriguing games that came this week is Ancestors. You start as an early hominid (an ancestor of modern humans), and you struggle to survive and evolve. It sounds fascinating – but I have a hard time with survival games. I want to try it, but I also see it frustrating the heck out of me. But it’s getting a great deal of buzz. Try it if you like Ark, Rust, and it’s ilk.

I’ve been tinkering with Remnant: From the Ashes for a bit now. It surprises me. It’s from the Darksiders studio, Gunfire Games, and as you’re exploring this postapocalyptic world, you’re learning about The Root, interdimensional invaders that look more like sentient plants than other life forms. You don’t die – you find yourself resurrected by a crystal-like artifact. It’s a mix of magic and technology, and it sure has some potential.

As for new announcements, I’m keen on The Wheel of Fate. This RPG uses AI to generate dungeons and use your choices to influence the world. It has a “wheel” of choices, and as you make decisions, you may get more sub-decisions. All of this factors into the story you experience. It has the potential to present an RPG with thousands of choices.

Drop me a line on Twitter if you’re playing any of these – or other – new releases this week. I’d love to hear how these games are moving you.
