PC Gaming Weekly - New Steam Interface

Steam has long had one of the ugliest and most unfriendly user interfaces. Consider your library: It’s really just one long list of games you have. You can mark some as favorites to put in a big list above the bigger list. Or you can put it into icons, which feels even worse to me.

As someone who’s been buying games and receiving codes since 2006, finding games I own in my Steam library can be … daunting. I’ve taken to creating shortcuts for new games, rather than trying to find them in my Steam account.

So I’m excited that Steam is getting a facelift. It’s going to make games easier to find, and when developers add new features, updates, and more to a game, the new Events function will alert you to the changes. I like the idea of this.

Steam has long had a grip on PC gaming, so much so that it didn’t feel any pressure to make any big changes. What were you going to do – play those games you’d already bought elsewhere? But Valve is beginning to feel pressure, whether it’s from Epic and its exclusives, Discord and its superior UI and features, or Microsoft and its Xbox Game Pass for PC.

And finally, after years of snoozing as others made innovations, the giant is waking up.
