2022 is shaping up to be another bumper year for indie games, with plenty of innovation, artistry, and great gameplay on the horizon. Be sure to make a note of these upcoming titles when you're filling up your 2022 gaming calendar!

Stray

In Stray, players will swap boots for paws as they embody the wandering protagonist, a kitten who has been injured and separated from its pack. Looking for a way back home, players will explore the neon underbelly of a derelict cybercity inhabited by curious, human-like droids, and some more dangerous creatures. Stray's mechanics are sure to be exciting, as the cat's dexterity, mobility, and agility are necessary for the level of exploration the game requires.

Players looking for a non-traditional adventure with vivid scenery will find Stray a perfect fit.

Sifu

Sifu brings the heat with a memorable story, rapid-fire hand-to-hand combat, and unique mechanics that enhance the narrative. Players take the role of a young kung fu student in modern China, hunting down the group of five assassins that wiped out his family. Sifu features a steep but rewarding learning curve for its Pak Mei kung fu combat, and an intriguing approach to the effect of the lead character's death on skills, perks, and leveling. We'll say no more to avoid spoilers—readers will just have to play Sifu to find out.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge

Our favorite 80s rough-and-tumble turtles are getting the beat-'em-up treatment in the upcoming sidescroller Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge. Players can duke it out alone, or play in a party of up to four, as the turtles go up against classic villains such as Shredder and Krang. Each turtle has an individual skillset, giving each a unique play-style. Fans will be happy to know that everything in the game, from missions and locations to weapons and items, was directly inspired by the 80s animated series.

For players that love nostalgic titles and pixel-art arcade brawlers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge is an ideal fix.

Weird West

The wild, wild west is getting a witchy treatment in Weird West, the dark fantasy game that pairs cowboys with crones. Made by former Arkane Studios senior team members, Weird West intertwines the stories of five atypical heroes, each with their own skills and goals. As an immersive sim set in an expansive sandbox, this debut from WolfEye Studios encourages multiple playthroughs, impressive player agency, and creative thinking.

Players who like the sound of an action RPG with a great pedigree will get a kick from Weird West. The game launches on January 11, 2022.

Wizard with a Gun

Sling spells and bullets in Wizard with a Gun, where players have to survive the odds in a sandbox world rife with dangerous creatures, magical mysteries, and wild adventures. Players can adventure alone, or in groups of up to four wizards, exploring the randomly generated biomes in search of elements to craft their weapons. Creativity in your customization is the key to success, leading to dramatic discoveries, or dangerous disasters!

Players who enjoyed other Devolver Digital games, such as Death's Door, are sure to have fun with Wizard with a Gun.

Little Devil Inside

Little Devil Inside combines Steampunk whimsy with detailed exploration to create a fantastical world of monsters and men. Players will explore this world as Billy, a sword-for-hire employed by Professor Vincent. Billy's task? Finding strange phenomena, and documenting them in an encyclopedia. Players will have to hunt monsters, survive harsh conditions, and travel from deserts to the deep sea. Little Devil Inside guarantees players will happen upon countless surprising, fun, and challenging encounters.
Players who enjoy thoughtful art direction and in-depth worldbuilding will find Little Devil Inside a treat for the eyes and mind.

Bear and Breakfast

Bear and Breakfast will have players turning a once-derelict shack into a cozy B&B in the woods. Hank and his eager friends can customize each room, from fixtures to furnishings, and expand the property as they grow their business and reputation. The catch? You're playing as a brown bear. As the B&B grows, so do the intriguing mysteries of the woods surrounding it.

Players who enjoyed Night in the Woods will cozy up to Bear and Breakfast.

Goodbye Volcano High

It's the end of the world in more ways than one in Goodbye Volcano High, the dino-centric narrative title that mixes the emotional highs and lows of an impending apocalypse with teen drama. Characters will navigate this world of humanoid dinosaurs as Fang, a senior at Volcano High, who is faced with possibilities and doubts at every turn. Player choice will affect who Fang becomes, and the outcome of the game. Write songs, confess to crushes, and discover what the future holds through your final year of high school.

Cult of the Lamb

In Cult of the Lamb,players will embody a lamb suddenly possessed with awesome powers at the moment of its execution. Breaking free, the lamb is now on a mission to repay the debt owed to the mysterious stranger who conferred power upon it. This involves raising a cult to worship the stranger and razing any other cults in the process. Players will work to uncover the secrets of the five regions, gain devoted woodland followers, and destroy nonbelievers on their way to becoming the number one woolly cult leader!

Players who enjoyed games such as Going Under will enjoy Cult of the Lamb's absurdist playfulness.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is deeply rooted in the world created by J.R.R. Tolkien and adds context to the titular character's journey. From his escape from under the Dark Tower, to his stay with the Elves of Mirkwood, Gollum's story takes him all over Middle-earth in search of "the One Ring". Players will navigate the game with a blend of stealth and cunning, while balancing the character's conflicting personalities: Torn by his two egos, he can be vicious and villainous as Gollum, but social and cautious as Sméagol.
