Design and display
The iPhone 15 and the iPhone 14 have the same dimensions and look very similar, but there are some subtle differences in the design. The iPhone 15 has a uniform color throughout the back and mid-frame, making it look more striking. The iPhone 15 also has the new Dynamic Island cutout at the front, which is smaller than the notch on the iPhone 14 and allows for alerts and live activities. The Dynamic Island debuted on the iPhone 14 Pro series last year, and now it is available on the base and Plus models as well.
The display size and resolution are the same for both phones: 6.1 inches for the base and Pro models, and 6.7 inches for the Plus and Pro Max models. However, the iPhone 15 has a brighter display, with a peak brightness of 2,000 nits, compared to 1,200 nits on the iPhone 14. The refresh rate is still 60Hz for the base and Plus models, but it is 120Hz for the Pro and Pro Max models.
Performance and battery
The iPhone 15 has a faster processor than the iPhone 14. The base and Plus models have the A16 Bionic chip, while the Pro and Pro Max models have the A17 Pro Bionic chip. These chips are based on a 5nm process and have six cores: two high-performance cores and four high-efficiency cores. They also have a 16-core neural engine for machine learning tasks.
The battery life of the iPhone 15 is also improved over the iPhone 14. According to Apple, the iPhone 15 can last up to two hours longer than the iPhone 14, while the iPhone 15 Plus can last up to one hour longer. The Pro and Pro Max models have similar battery life as their predecessors.
Camera and storage
The camera system of the iPhone 15 is one of the biggest upgrades over the iPhone 14. The main camera on all models has a new 48MP sensor with optical image stabilization (OIS) and a larger aperture of f/1.6. This allows for more light and detail in photos and videos. The ultra-wide camera also has a new 12MP sensor with OIS and a wider field of view of 120 degrees.
The Pro and Pro Max models have an additional telephoto camera with OIS and optical zoom. The Pro model has a 12MP sensor with a 3x zoom, while the Pro Max model has a new periscope lens with a 5x zoom. The periscope lens uses a prism to bend light and achieve higher magnification without increasing the thickness of the phone.
The front camera on all models has also been upgraded to a 48MP sensor with OIS and Dynamic Island support. This enables better selfies, Face ID, Animoji, Memoji, and live activities.
The storage options for both phones are the same: 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB for all models, and an additional option of 1TB for the Pro and Pro Max models.
Other features
One of the most noticeable changes in the iPhone 15 is that it has a USB-C port instead of a Lightning port. This makes it compatible with more accessories and chargers, as well as faster data transfer speeds. However, Apple still does not include a charger in the box for any of its phones.
Both phones support wireless charging, MagSafe accessories, Face ID, IP68 water resistance, dual SIM (nano-SIM and eSIM), Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, GPS, stereo speakers, Dolby Atmos sound, Apple Pay, Siri, AirDrop, AirPlay, CarPlay, iCloud, iMessage, FaceTime, App Store, Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, Apple News+, Apple Fitness+, Apple One.
Price
The price of the iPhone 15 is mostly unchanged from the iPhone 14 in the U.S., except for the Pro Max model which costs $100 more. The base model starts at $799, while the Plus model starts at $899. The Pro model starts at $999, while the Pro Max model starts at $1,199.
However, in other countries such as Canada (where you are located), U.K., Australia etc., all models of the iPhone 15 are priced higher than their predecessors due to currency fluctuations and other factors. For example, in Canada, the iPhone 15 starts at $1,099, while the iPhone 15 Plus starts at $1,249. The iPhone 15 Pro starts at $1,399, while the iPhone 15 Pro Max starts at $1,549.
Conclusion
The iPhone 15 is a significant upgrade over the iPhone 14 in terms of design, performance, camera, and charging port. It offers a more modern and striking look, a brighter and more responsive display, a faster and more efficient processor, a better and more versatile camera system, and a more convenient and compatible USB-C port. However, it also comes at a higher price in most countries outside the U.S., and it still does not include a charger in the box. Therefore, if you are looking for the best iPhone experience and don’t mind paying extra, the iPhone 15 is the clear choice. But if you are on a budget or happy with your current iPhone 14, you may want to wait for the next generation or look for other alternatives.
