Wi-Fi 7 is the next generation of wireless technology that promises to deliver faster speeds, lower latency, and more capacity for various applications. Here are some of the main features and benefits of Wi-Fi 7:
- Multi-gigabit speeds: Wi-Fi 7 can achieve speeds up to 46 Gbps, which is about five times faster than Wi-Fi 6E and four times faster than the current internet plans. This means you can enjoy high-quality video streaming, cloud gaming, and immersive AR and VR experiences with less buffering and lag.
- Ultra-wide channels: Wi-Fi 7 can use channels up to 320 MHz wide, which is double the width of Wi-Fi 6E. This allows for more data to be transmitted at once, resulting in higher throughput and efficiency. For example, a Wi-Fi 7 smartphone can get speeds up to 5 Gbps on a 320 MHz channel.
- Enhanced OFDMA: Wi-Fi 7 improves the orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) technique that enables multiple devices to share the same channel. This reduces interference, increases spectrum utilization, and lowers latency. Wi-Fi 7 also introduces enhanced OFDMA, which allows for more flexible subcarrier allocation and better adaptation to changing network conditions.
- More spatial streams: Wi-Fi 7 can support up to 16 spatial streams, which is double the number of Wi-Fi 6. This means more antennas can be used to send and receive data simultaneously, boosting network performance and capacity.
- Higher modulation: Wi-Fi 7 can use 4096-QAM modulation, which is a step up from the 1024-QAM modulation of Wi-Fi 6 and 6E. This means more bits can be encoded in each symbol, resulting in a 20% increase in data transmission rate.
- Multi-link operation: Wi-Fi 7 can use both the 6 GHz and 5 GHz bands at the same time, which is called multi-link operation. This feature enables devices to switch between bands seamlessly, avoid network congestion, and increase reliability. It also allows devices to send and receive data across both bands simultaneously, further enhancing throughput.

Wi-Fi 7 is expected to be finalized by the end of 2024 and become widely available by 2025. However, some manufacturers have already announced their plans to launch Wi-Fi 7 routers in early 2023.
