AMD FSR 3.1 Announced at GDC 2024: Improved Upscaling Quality and More
Last September, AMD introduced FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 (FSR 3) to the gaming world, delivering significant FPS improvements in supported games. FSR 3 is the latest version of AMD’s cutting-edge open upscaling technology, which enhances frame rates while maintaining image quality. Now, at GDC 2024, AMD has unveiled FSR 3.1, the latest update to this technology.
Key Improvements in FSR 3.1
-
Upscaling Image Quality Improvements:
- Temporal Stability: FSR 3.1 offers improved temporal stability both at rest and during movement. This means less flickering and shimmering around objects in motion.
- Ghosting Reduction: FSR 3.1 better preserves detail and reduces ghosting artifacts.
- Decoupling FSR 3 Upscaling from Frame Generation: Developers can now use FSR 3.1 frame generation technology alongside other upscaling solutions.
- New AMD FidelityFX API: This API simplifies debugging for developers and ensures forward compatibility with updated versions of FSR.
- Vulkan® and Xbox Game Development Kit (GDK) Support: FSR 3.1 extends its compatibility to Vulkan and Xbox GDK.
-
First Game to Feature FSR 3.1: The game “Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart” from Insomniac Games, Nixxes Software, and Sony Interactive Entertainment will be the first to receive the FSR 3.1 update. Players can expect enhanced image quality and improved performance.
Availability
AMD FSR 3.1 will be available for developers on GPUOpen in Q2 and will be integrated into games later this year. With the rapid adoption of FSR 3 in games, the gaming community can look forward to an even better gaming experience with FSR 3.1.
Stay tuned for more updates and enjoy the benefits of AMD’s cutting-edge upscaling technology! 🚀🎮
