AMD, a leading player in the tech industry, is set to launch its next-generation Zen 5 CPUs in the second half of 2024. The new line-up includes the Granite Ridge for desktops, Strix Point for laptops, and Turin CPUs for EPYC servers. Let’s delve into the details of these exciting new products.
Granite Ridge: The Desktop Powerhouse
The first alleged picture of AMD’s next-generation Ryzen “Granite Ridge” Desktop CPU with 8 cores & 16 threads based on the Zen 5 core architecture has been leaked. The picture shows a standard AMD Ryzen CPU with no SKU identifier and a hidden QR code but it is mentioned as an 8-core & 16-thread chip.
The OPN ID of 100-000001290-11 is interesting as we have seen that leak previously and based on what we know, this could be our very first look at AMD’s next-gen Ryzen Desktop CPU family based on the Zen 5 core architecture and is codenamed "Granite Ridge".
Strix Point: The Laptop Marvel
On the laptop front, AMD is set to introduce the Strix Point, the follow-up to its Ryzen 8040 “Hawk Point” APUs in the second half of 2024. These next-gen APUs will be utilizing the Zen 5 core architecture and tuned GPU architecture known as RDNA 3.5. These chips will also deliver a 3x improvement in AI NPU performance with the upgraded Ryzen AI “XDNA 2” engine.
Turin: The Server Titan
For the data center front, AMD also confirms that Turin, the follow-up to Genoa, will be introduced as a drop-in replacement to 4th Gen EPYC platforms. The Turin CPUs will carry a higher number of cores and include radical memory expansion capabilities. The Zen 5 core will also be delivering leadership performance per watt across a wide range of workloads.
Conclusion
With the launch of the Zen 5 CPUs, AMD is set to make a significant impact on the tech industry. From desktops to laptops to servers, the new line-up promises to deliver high performance and efficiency. As we eagerly await the second half of 2024, the tech world is abuzz with anticipation for what AMD has in store with its next-gen CPUs.
