AMD’s upcoming Zen 6 CPUs are poised to be quite the powerhouse, with three different CCD (Core Complex Die) configurations:
- 8 Cores per CCD: These chips will offer a total of 8 cores per CCD.
- 16 Cores per CCD: The Zen 5C architecture will feature a single CCX (Core Complex) within the CCD, packing a total of 16 cores. This translates to a whopping 192 cores when fully stacked!
- Up to 32 Cores per CCD: Zen 6 takes it even further, potentially providing up to 32 cores per CCD. Imagine the multi-threaded performance in Threadripper and EPYC processors! 🌟
Zen 5 and Zen 5C Comparison
Before we get too excited about Zen 6, let’s take a quick look at Zen 5 and Zen 5C:
- Zen 5: Up to 16 CCDs (EPYC) with 8 cores per CCD, resulting in a maximum of 128 cores.
- Zen 5C: A single CCX design within the CCD, housing 16 cores for a total of 192 cores. These chips are designed for mainstream PCs and servers, emphasizing efficiency.
What About Gaming?
While Zen-powered CPUs with 16 or 32 cores on a single CCD are fantastic for multi-threaded workloads, current PC games and engines aren’t fully optimized for such high core counts. Additionally, AMD’s 3D V-Cache CPU options offer an alternative for performance-hungry users.
