Core Configurations of Intel Core Ultra 200 “Arrow Lake-S” Desktop Processors Surface
5/08/2024Core Configurations of Intel Core Ultra 200 “Arrow Lake-S” Desktop Processors Surface
Intel is gearing up to launch its next-generation desktop processor lineup, the Core Ultra 200 series. These processors will be the company’s first desktop CPUs with integrated AI capabilities, thanks to an integrated 50 TOPS-class NPU. At the heart of these processors lies the “Arrow Lake” microarchitecture, which necessitated the refresh of the “Raptor Lake” lineup to cover the 2023-24 processor range.
Key Features of the Arrow Lake-S Processors:
-
Core Configuration:
- The new “Arrow Lake-S” desktop processors feature a maximum CPU core configuration of 8P+16E. This means that consumers can expect at least the same core counts at given price points to carry over from previous generations.
- The Core Ultra 9 285K (and possibly the 285KF) leads the lineup with an 8P+16E core configuration, a processor base power value of 125 W, and a maximum P-core boost frequency of 5.50 GHz.
- Other models include the Core Ultra 7 265K (8P+12E) and the Core Ultra 5 245K (6P+8E).
-
Alignment with Mobile Processor Numbering:
- With the introduction of “Arrow Lake,” Intel’s desktop processor model numbering aligns with that of its mobile processors.
- The Core Ultra brand denotes the latest microarchitecture for a given processor generation.
- Since “Arrow Lake” is a generation ahead of “Meteor Lake,” processor models in the series are numbered under the Core Ultra 200 series.
-
Chiplet-Based Design:
- Similar to “Meteor Lake,” “Arrow Lake” is a chiplet-based processor.
- Its compute tile includes up to 8 “Lion Cove” performance cores (P-cores) and up to 16 “Skymont” efficiency cores (E-cores).
-
AI Acceleration and iGPU:
- The processor features a 50 TOPS-class NPU for on-device AI acceleration.
- It also includes a truncated version of the Xe-LPG iGPU used with “Meteor Lake.”
-
New CPU Socket:
- “Arrow Lake” debuts a new CPU socket on the desktop platform: the LGA1851.
- This socket offers more I/O capabilities than the LGA1700 and “Raptor Lake.”
In summary, Intel’s Core Ultra 200 “Arrow Lake-S” desktop processors promise improved performance, AI capabilities, and a refreshed microarchitecture. Enthusiasts can look forward to overclocker-friendly K and KF SKUs when the lineup debuts.
