Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick recently confirmed that the highly-anticipated next entry in the Grand Theft Auto franchise, GTA 6, will be released in the fall of 2025. Despite some hopes for an earlier release, Zelnick stated that the game’s launch window likely won’t impact its sales. Whether it’s released in early 2025 or late 2025, the CEO believes it won’t significantly affect the game’s performance.

High Confidence and Console Impact

Take-Two’s confidence in GTA 6 is well-founded, considering the massive success of GTA V, which sold over 200 million copies since its 2013 release. Zelnick also expects GTA 6 to be a major console mover. Research firm IDG projects that approximately 111 million “Gen 9” consoles (including PS5 and Xbox Series X|S) will be sold globally by the end of 2024. This growth trend indicates a significant attach rate for GTA 6, making it a system seller.

While these projections aren’t confirmed numbers, they highlight the anticipation surrounding GTA 6 and its potential impact on the gaming industry. As fans eagerly await the next installment, Take-Two remains optimistic about the game’s success.
