AMD Announces Ryzen 9000 Series Desktop Zen 5 CPUs “Granite Ridge”
6/02/2024Let’s dive into the exciting world of AMD’s Ryzen 9000 Zen 5 desktop CPUs, codenamed “Granite Ridge.” These processors promise significant improvements over their predecessors, and I’m thrilled to share the details with you.
AMD Announces Ryzen 9000 Series Desktop Zen 5 CPUs “Granite Ridge”
Architecture and Core Configuration
- The Ryzen 9000 series is built on the Zen5 architecture, representing a leap forward in performance and efficiency.
- These processors will be the third generation for the AM5 socket, following the Ryzen 7000 “Raphael” and Ryzen 8000 “Hawk Point” series.
- Each Ryzen 9000 CPU features up to two Zen5 chiplets, with each chiplet containing up to 8 cores. This configuration allows for a maximum of 16 cores and 32 threads, similar to the Ryzen 7000 series.
- Notably, AMD continues to support SMT (simultaneous multi-threading), a feature absent in Intel’s Core Ultra 200 “Arrow Lake” processors.
Product Lineup
AMD is launching four SKUs in the Granite Ridge series:
-
Ryzen 9 9950X
- 16 cores
- 170W TDP
- Boost clock up to 5.7 GHz
-
Ryzen 9 9900X
- 12 cores
- 120W TDP
- Boost clock up to 5.6 GHz
-
Ryzen 7 9700X
- 8 cores
- 65W TDP
- Boost clock up to 5.5 GHz
-
Ryzen 5 9600X
- 6 cores
- 65W TDP
- Boost clock up to 5.4 GHz
Zen5 Performance and IPC Improvements
- The flagship Ryzen 9 9950X demonstrates impressive performance gains. In gaming, it outperforms Intel’s Core i9-14900K by 4% to 23%.
- In productivity tasks, the 9950X shines even brighter, surpassing the i9-14900K by 7% to 56%.
- The Zen5 architecture boasts a 16% IPC uplift compared to Zen4, as measured across various gaming and productivity benchmarks.
- Notably, the most significant improvement is observed in the Geekbench 5.4 AES test, while the smallest gain occurs in Far Cry 6.
Release Date and Pricing
- AMD has announced that the Ryzen 9000 series will launch on July 31st.
- This early release allows AMD to prepare its 9000X3D series for launch shortly after Intel’s Core Ultra 200 series, expected in Q4 2024.
- Stay tuned for official pricing details!
