AMD’s Strix Point APU in Cinebench R23

Leaked benchmarks reveal the impressive performance of AMD’s flagship Ryzen APU with Zen5 architecture. According to AMD, the Ryzen AI 300 series is set to be 20% faster in single-core and 40% faster in multi-core performance compared to Intel’s Core Ultra 9 185H, based on their Cinebench 2024 tests. Although Cinebench 2024 is newer, the older R23 version remains more popular.

First R23 Benchmark for Ryzen AI 9 HX 370

HXL recently shared the first Cinebench R23 benchmark for the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 SKU. The benchmark, however, lacks details on system specs, power settings, and memory configuration, which can influence results. Reportedly, the HX 370 scored 2010 points in the single-core test and 23302 points in the multi-core test.

Performance Comparison

The Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 demonstrates superior single-core performance but falls short compared to Intel’s more powerful 55W desktop-class SKUs like the Core i9-14900HX. It also lags behind AMD’s own Ryzen 9 7945HX3D in multi-core performance. Nonetheless, the HX 370 is approximately 16% faster in single-core and 36% faster in multi-core performance than the Core Ultra 9 185H, which was tested at a 54W TDP.

Advancements Over Predecessors

The HX 370 offers about 12% better single-core and 32% better multi-core performance compared to its predecessor with Zen4 cores, the Phoenix/Hawk Point series. Notably, the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 features 12 cores: four Zen5 cores and eight ‘dense’ Zen5c cores, reflecting AMD’s shift towards more heterogeneous configurations.

Upcoming Launch

According to AMD, the Strix Point APUs will be available in new laptops by the end of this month.
