ASUS ROG Ally X Handheld: Now Available for $799 with Major Upgrades

ASUS has officially launched the ROG Ally X handheld gaming device, priced at $799.99. This new model brings significant enhancements over its predecessor, the ROG Ally, which debuted in June last year.

Enhanced Design and Ergonomics

The ROG Ally X features a refined design for better ergonomics and cooling. It is slightly taller than its predecessor, improving grip for extended gaming sessions. The cooling system now includes 23% smaller fans and an additional exhaust vent, increasing airflow by 24% for superior thermal management.

Upgraded Controls and Connectivity

The new black chassis of the ROG Ally X is more rounded for a natural grip. The controls have been optimized for better ergonomics, with rearranged buttons and sticks, and slanted triggers for easier presses. The joysticks now have stiffer springs and a longer lifespan of 5 million cycles. Additionally, the device includes a new USB Type-C port with Thunderbolt 4 support, allowing for third-party docks and external GPUs.

Improved Performance and Storage

The ROG Ally X sees a significant upgrade in RAM and storage. It now boasts 24GB of LPDDR5 RAM, up from 16GB, with an increased clock speed of 7500MHz. The device retains the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme APU but features a redesigned motherboard to support a larger 2280 form-factor SSD. Out of the box, it comes with a 1TB NVMe SSD, doubling the storage capacity of its predecessor.

Superior Battery Life

One of the most notable upgrades is the battery life. The ROG Ally X is equipped with an 80Wh battery, doubling the capacity of the original ROG Ally. This enhancement allows for significantly longer gaming sessions, though it does increase the device’s weight by 0.15 lbs.
