NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 Series: Preliminary TDPs Revealed
Sunday, July 14, 2024NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 Series: Preliminary TDPs Revealed
The gaming community is abuzz with the latest revelations about NVIDIA’s upcoming GeForce RTX 50 “Blackwell” series GPUs. Seasonic, a renowned PSU manufacturer, has listed preliminary TDPs for the new lineup, sparking excitement and speculation among tech enthusiasts.
Higher TDPs for Next-Gen GPUs
Seasonic’s Wattage Calculator has revealed the following preliminary TDPs for the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 series:
- RTX 5090: 500W (up from 450W for the RTX 4090, a 50W increase or +11%)
- RTX 5080: 350W (up from 320W for the RTX 4080, a 30W increase or +9.3%)
- RTX 5070: 220W (up from 200W for the RTX 4070, a 20W increase or +10%)
- RTX 5060: 170W (up from 160W for the RTX 4060 Ti, a 10W increase or +6.2%)
- RTX 5050: 100W (down from 115W for the RTX 4060, a 15W decrease or -13%)
Flagship Models: RTX 5090 and RTX 5080
The RTX 5090 is set to replace the RTX 4090 as NVIDIA’s flagship GPU. With a TDP of 500W, it represents an 11% increase over its predecessor. NVIDIA is reportedly developing new cooling solutions and PCB designs to accommodate this higher power requirement.
Similarly, the RTX 5080 will see a TDP increase to 350W, up from 320W for the RTX 4080. This 9.3% increase suggests that the new Blackwell core may require more power to deliver enhanced performance.
Mid-Range and Entry-Level Models
The RTX 5070, RTX 5060, and RTX 5050 also show notable changes in their TDPs. The RTX 5070’s TDP is listed at 220W, a 10% increase over the RTX 4070. The RTX 5060’s TDP is 170W, marking a 6.2% increase over the RTX 4060 Ti. Interestingly, the RTX 5050’s TDP is 100W, a 13% decrease from the RTX 4060.
New Connector Design
All NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 “Blackwell” GPUs will feature a 16-pin connector, likely the new 12V-2x6 design, replacing the older 12VHPWR design that caused issues with the RTX 4090.
Launch Timeline
The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 series is expected to debut later this year, with the RTX 5080 launching first, followed by the RTX 5090 in Q4 2024. As always, these preliminary TDPs are subject to change, and more details will emerge as we approach the official launch dates.
