Skyblivion Release Nears: Oblivion Remake Mod Shows Off Stunning Gameplay Intro
After more than a decade of ambitious volunteer development, Skyblivion—the fan-made remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion in the Skyrim Special Edition engine—is finally nearing its long-awaited release, with the team confirming a target of 2025.
What Is Skyblivion?
Skyblivion is a total conversion mod that reimagines all of Oblivion’s mainland in the newer Creation Engine used for Skyrim. This means that classic locations like the Imperial City, Anvil, Cheydinhal, and the dark planes of Oblivion itself have been rebuilt, enhanced with improved graphics, modern lighting, and updated music. Unlike a remaster, this project rebuilds quests, cities, and dungeons from scratch to fit the Skyrim engine, while restoring features like spell crafting, underwater combat, traditional RPG class systems, and dynamic weather.
Development Journey and Progress
The project began in 2012 and has since rallied hundreds of contributors worldwide. Recent previews showcased new quest walkthroughs, upgraded cities, and a completely revamped introduction sequence—giving fans a first true taste of Oblivion as it could look and play in a new generation. Developers have put special care into updating boss encounters, enemy scaling, and game systems, making sure that the spirit of Oblivion and its unique world is preserved for old and new players alike.
Release Date and Availability
According to the latest updates, the Skyblivion team is confident the mod will launch in 2025. When released, it will include the entire pre-DLC world space of Oblivion, main story, and side quests, all rebuilt and upgraded. Players must own copies of both Oblivion (including all DLC) and Skyrim Special Edition to install and play the mod. After launch, the team will continue working on post-release content, including expansions such as The Shivering Isles.

Community Support and What Comes Next
Skyblivion is a volunteer-driven, non-profit passion project, continually seeking new contributors and feedback from fans. The team promises ongoing support for bug fixing and future expansions, aiming to offer the most complete and authentic Oblivion experience possible. The excitement is clear: after years of anticipation, the Elder Scrolls community is just months away from a new journey in Cyrodiil.
With a release finally in sight, Skyblivion stands as a major achievement in fan-driven game development—redefining what a remake can be and bringing a timeless classic to fresh, modern life.
