Control Resonant: Remedy Reveals Major Sequel Featuring New Protagonist and Melee-Focused RPG Action

Remedy Entertainment, the renowned studio behind hits like *Alan Wake* and *Max Payne*, has officially unveiled its next major project: Control Resonant. The follow-up to the 2019 critically acclaimed game Control was announced with a surreal and striking trailer at The Game Awards 2025.

Set for release in 2026, Control Resonant promises a dramatic shift in both setting and gameplay, expanding the Remedy Connected Universe into its biggest game yet.

Five Major Changes Coming to the FBC Universe

The announcement confirms several key changes that will define this new chapter in the Control saga, set seven years after the events of the original game:

  • New Protagonist: Players will no longer take on the role of Jesse Faden. Instead, the game focuses on her younger brother, **Dylan Faden**. Dylan awakens from a coma to be deployed by the Federal Bureau of Control (FBC) to combat a new crisis.
  • New Setting: The action moves beyond the shifting walls of the Oldest House. The primary setting is a warped and twisted **Manhattan**, which has become the new battleground as the Hiss threat spills out into the city.
  • Genre Shift: The sequel is described as a **melee-focused action-RPG**, a major departure from the previous game's third-person shooter structure.
  • Combat Focus: Dylan Faden will not wield Jesse’s Service Weapon. His combat style is centered on a crude, transforming melee weapon called the **Aberrant**, augmented by his extraordinary supernatural special abilities.
  • Release Window: The game is slated for a 2026 launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC (via Steam and Epic Games Store), and Mac.

Control Resonant follows Dylan's journey to fight for his survival against a "reality-bending cosmic threat" and search for his sister, Jesse, who has mysteriously disappeared.
