"Even Larger Than Baldur's Gate 3": Larian Studios Unveils New Game, Divinity, at The Game Awards
Thursday, December 11, 2025"Even Larger Than Baldur's Gate 3": Larian Studios Unveils New Game, Divinity, at The Game Awards
The biggest mystery of The Game Awards 2025 has been solved. Larian Studios, the acclaimed developer behind the 2023 Game of the Year winner Baldur's Gate 3, has officially revealed its next project: Divinity, a brand new entry in its homegrown fantasy series set in the world of Rivellon.
The announcement followed weeks of speculation centered on a mysterious, gruesome "Hellstone" statue that appeared in the Mojave Desert, a monument which has now been confirmed to be a teaser for the new title.
Larian’s Most Ambitious Game Yet
While no gameplay was shown, the scale of Larian's ambition was immediately made clear. Host Geoff Keighley stated on stage that Divinity is set to be Larian’s "biggest game ever," and "even larger than Baldur's Gate 3."
Larian Studios founder and game director Swen Vincke confirmed the significance of the title:
- "Despite our long history with the series, this is our first game entitled ‘Divinity.’"
- "This marks the beginning of something with more breadth, depth, and intimacy than anything we’ve created before."
- The new title, simply called Divinity, is a "brand new game" that is set in the world of Rivellon and promises greater understanding and continuity for those who played Divinity: Original Sin and Divinity: Original Sin 2.
The Gruesome Premiere Trailer
The world premiere trailer accompanying the announcement was notably darker and more disturbing than Larian’s previous work. The cinematic sequence showcased a Wicker Man-style pagan festival where a tortured man was burned alive as part of a ritual.
The scene escalated when the man's acidic blood erupted, spawning dark roots and turning into a horrific explosion of blood that shot into the sky. This unholy force then attacked the revelers, culminating in the shocking final image where the bodies were amalgamated into the shape of the mysterious desert statue, the Hellstone.
Release Window and Platforms
As the reveal was a world premiere, Larian Studios did not announce a release date or specific platforms for Divinity. Given the massive scope confirmed by Keighley and Vincke, fans should expect a significant wait as the studio dedicates itself to delivering on the promise of its "most ambitious title yet."
