Skyblivion Delayed to 2026 - Development Vlog
Thursday, December 04, 2025Skyblivion Project Update
The Skyblivion project, a fan-made recreation of Oblivion in the Skyrim engine, has delayed its release to 2026. The project lead, Rebelzize, explains that while the game is in its best state, they need more time to overcome final challenges and ensure quality.
Current Status Breakdown
- World Map: The entire world map, including unique realms and Oblivion Deadlands, is 100% finished. An interactive satellite map is available on their website for exploration.
- Dungeons, Interiors, and Cities: All quest dungeons are complete, with unique experiences and boss battles. The majority of interiors are finished, with the Imperial City's 3D assets being the main remaining task, estimated to be done by the end of the year. Major cities, excluding parts of the Imperial City, are also complete.
- Navmesh: The navmesh team is working on enabling NPCs to move around the finished areas. Quest-relevant locations are estimated for completion by Q4 2025, and overall navmesh by Q1 2026.
- 3D Assets and Implementation: The 3D department has largely finished all weapons, armors, clothing, clutter, plants, and most architecture assets. Weapons, armors, and clothes have been redesigned for uniqueness. Implementation of low-priority assets is mostly done, with a goal to finish by the end of the year.
- Quest Implementation: Progress is steady, but hindered by unfinished locations like the Imperial City. The goal is to finish quests by Q1 2026 for playtesting.
- UI and Mechanics: The UI is transitioning to a more Skyrim-like design for functionality, with a potential reskin later, estimated to be complete by Q1 2026. The mechanics team is focusing on player experience and plans to invite playtesters once the perk menu UI is implemented. Most major systems like alchemy, spells, perks, and crafting are estimated to be complete by the end of the year.
- Final Fight Cinematic: A team of professional animators is working on the cinematic for the final fight between Akatosh and Mehrunes Dagon, but they need more animators, a renderer, a set dresser, a VFX artist, and a destruction sim artist.
- General Polish and Priorities: The team will focus on polishing, balancing, and fixing the game until release.
- Future Roadmap & Cut Content: After release, they plan bug fixes and potential custom content, including original Oblivion DLCs like Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine. Some content, such as underwater combat and spell crafting, will not be available at launch due to technical issues and broken code, but they hope to add them later.
The project expresses gratitude for continued support and looks forward to the 2026 release.
