New tools: Holy Strike and Seal of Fury

Per Tavern, Holy Strike returns from the 2004 beta as a level 6 all-Paladin ability starting at 25 percent weapon damage plus 12 flat Holy and ranking to 40 percent plus 108 flat, with a 42.9 percent spell power ratio on a 12 second cooldown cut to 10 via 2 points in Improved Holy Strike. Pure Holy damage bypasses armor, which matters for PvP against Warriors, Bears, Hunters, Shamans and Horde Paladins, per the author.

Per Tavern, Seal of Fury returns reworked for Protection with small Holy damage plus a shield for 50 percent of damage dealt, and its Judgement taunts for 4 seconds. Max rank numbers are 35 plus 10 percent spell power on hit and 153 plus 45 percent on Judgement, so Seal of Righteousness may keep the threat crown unless tuning lands, per the author.

Paladins finally have a taunt. That single line ends years of Prot identity pain.

The nerfs: Consecration, Bubble and Might

Per Tavern, Kings and Consecration go baseline at 20 for all specs, but Consecration is capped to full damage on 4 targets with crumbs beyond. Rank 5 math per the author: 312 over 8 seconds on the first 4 versus 384 before (19 percent down) and 96 on the rest (75 percent down), with spell power ratio up 126 percent to 9.5 percent per tick applying only to the first-4 component. Possible beta bug on the scaling split, flagged openly.

Per Tavern, Divine Shield moves to the Wrath version with 50 percent damage dealt cut instead of the Classic attack-speed penalty, which guts Reckoning burst windows and PvP kill turns. Blessing of Might Rank 7 drops to 133 attack power from 185 (218 with old Improved talent), a 39 percent total nerf that may itself be a beta bug since other Blessings are untouched, per the author.

Blizzard intent per Tavern is killing AoE dungeon farms. Price is paid by Prot farmers and Reckoning memers.

Quality of life wins

Per Tavern, Judgement no longer consumes the Seal and non-Justice debuffs last 40 seconds up from 10, both Wrath-era wins that free mana and fix re-Judge annoyance on boss downtimes. Crusader judging once per fight is the Ret dream cited.

Per Tavern, 5-minute Blessings plus Greaters last 1 hour, Lay on Hands drops to 20 minutes from 1 hour minus the Improved armor buff, Holy Wrath stuns Undead and Demons 2 seconds, and Fire, Frost and Shadow auras cover the whole raid. Talent baselines fold in Wisdom 20 percent, Righteous Fury 90 percent, Retribution Aura 50 percent and Crusader 15 percent while their old talents retire, per the same list.

Small base-value nerfs touch Exorcism, Holy Light, Flash of Light, Hammer of Wrath and Command Judgement with ratios intact, so leveling feels it more than raids, per the author. Seal of Righteousness gets the rare small buff.

  • Play: Judge once, buff hourly, bubble shorter kills.
  • Watch: Might numbers plus Consecration scaling split for bug fixes.
  • Ask: Shockadin viability, with a dedicated article promised by the author.

Does the meme-spec promise hold

Per Tavern framing of BlizzCon panels, every spec viable is the pledge against vanilla Ret and Prot meme history. New tools plus aura coverage plus hour buffs push that way while Consecration caps and Bubble cuts pull back.

Per Tavern comments, Shockadin gets a tentative viable nod from the author with a full article to come. Treat as author read, not sims.
