PS6 and Xbox Helix: Chips Taped Out at 40 and 56 TFLOPS
By Indie Kings | October 25, 2026
Updated October 25, 2026: Leaker KeplerL2 says the chips for PlayStation 6 and the next Xbox are both in tape-out, with estimated GPU compute of 40 TFLOPS for PS6 and 56 TFLOPS for Xbox Helix.

What actually happened
Per hardware leaker KeplerL2, both chips have completed tape-out. Tape-out means the chip design is finalized for manufacturing, so you do not normally expect major spec changes from here unless silicon testing forces a revision.
What a TFLOPS number really tells you
TFLOPS measure raw compute throughput, not in-game FPS. Real performance depends on how developers use the hardware. Upscaling, ray tracing, path tracing and AI features each pull from different parts of the chip, and the TFLOPS figure says nothing about how many ray accelerators the chip carries. So the 40 percent gap between PS6 and Xbox Helix is a compute gap on paper, not a guaranteed gameplay gap.
Spec comparison
| Spec | Xbox Series X | Sony PS5 | Sony PS5 Pro | Alleged PS6 | Alleged next Xbox (Helix) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| CPU | AMD Zen 2 | AMD Zen 2 | AMD Zen 2 | AMD Zen 6 family | AMD Zen 6 family |
| GPU | AMD RDNA 2 | AMD RDNA 2 | Custom AMD RDNA | AMD RDNA 5 | AMD RDNA 5 |
| GPU compute | 12 TFLOPS | 10.28 TFLOPS | 18.05 TFLOPS | 40 TFLOPS | 56 TFLOPS |
| Main memory | 16GB GDDR6 | 16GB GDDR6 | 16GB GDDR6 | 30GB GDDR7 | TBC |
| Memory bus | 320-bit | 256-bit | 256-bit | 160-bit | TBC |
| Memory bandwidth | 560 GB/s (10GB) / 336 GB/s (6GB) | 448 GB/s | 576 GB/s | 640 GB/s | TBC |
Context: Xbox Series S sits at 4 TFLOPS; Sony PS5 Pro is rated 16.7 TFLOPS typical and 18.05 TFLOPS peak. PS6 reportedly uses 30GB of GDDR7 on a 160-bit bus for 640 GB/s.
FAQ
Are the PS6 and next Xbox chips really in tape-out?
Per KeplerL2 on NeoGAF, yes; both are reported as taped out.
How fast are these chips?
Estimates put PS6 at 40 TFLOPS and Xbox Helix at 56 TFLOPS, so about 40 percent apart in raw compute.
Does 56 TFLOPS mean Xbox will be 40 percent faster in games?
No, per VideoCardz; TFLOPS do not equal FPS.
Who reported this?
KeplerL2, the hardware leaker on NeoGAF.
Will either console change specs?
Not usually at this stage, barring a silicon revision.
What GPU and CPU are they using?
Per VideoCardz, next gen consoles use Zen 6 CPUs and RDNA 5 GPUs.
Bottom Line
Tape-out locks silicon, not feelings. If these TFLOPS figures hold, Xbox Helix has a compute edge on paper, while PS6 boasts higher bandwidth per GB. In game terms, all that raw power is only as useful as what developers actually squeeze out of it.
