The packs are not new content for the Remastered. They are the eleven-year-old free content that shipped with the original, and they are the cheapest way to fill a Reforge collection, because eleven of the sixteen add permanent entries to the appearance menu. This site confirmed the Complete Edition contents when the Remastered launched. It has never listed what is in the packs. Names like the Ballad Heroes Gwent set, the Skellige Armor Set, the Forgotten Wolf School Gear scavenger hunt and Fools' Gold appear in zero of 18,384 posts on this site.

CD Projekt Red published the canonical list on August 19, 2015, when the sixteenth and final pack landed. The announcement states that the last release was New Game Plus, described as "the 16th and last of them", and that the packs were "available for download on every platform" and "free of charge."

Two of those names have never appeared on this site at all, which is the gap this article fills. Ballad Heroes and Skellige Armor Set are each at zero across 18,384 posts, as are Fools' Gold, In the Eternal Fire's Shadow and the finisher animations.

How to claim them, and the part that has changed

CD Projekt Red's announcement gives per-platform instructions, and the headline is that these are claimed from the store page rather than from inside the game.

On Steam: on the game's page in your library you will see that DLC are available. Tick them and Steam downloads them automatically as part of its update process. If they are downloaded but not showing in game, CD Projekt Red's instruction is to restart Steam.
On GOG Galaxy: an ADDITIONAL CONTENT section appears in the right column of the game page. You purchase the "FREE DLC PROGRAM" item, which you are not charged for, then use More / Configure / Available Content, tick the DLC, and Galaxy downloads them.

The part that has changed is the store listing itself. CD Projekt Red's 2015 instructions refer to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and the Remastered now occupies a Steam entry that lists only four DLC items: Songs of the Past, the base soundtrack, the Hearts of Stone soundtrack and the Blood and Wine soundtrack. None of the sixteen free packs appears in that list, verified against Steam's store API for the Remastered app on September 29, 2026.

That does not mean the packs are gone, and this article cannot tell you they are not. The pattern is worth stating because it decides whether you care. Four of the sixteen are pure cosmetics, four are new quests, three are gear sets, two are character skins for women in the game, one is a Gwent card set, one is animations, and one is a replay mode. Not one of the sixteen adds a single line of new story to the main campaign. They are side content, and a player who skipped them has not missed the plot.

All four pieces are sold by Bran, the merchant Geralt and Vesemir rescue from the Griffin at the opening of the game, in White Orchard. The community wiki places him near the Woesong Bridge signpost.

Three horse items complete the pack. The Temerian Saddle grants +25 horse stamina, the Horse Blinders grant +20 horse fear tolerance, and the Saddlebags grant +30 inventory space.

The free in the pack's name refers to the download, not the purchase. This is the single most common misunderstanding about the sixteen, and it is the reason the set is often described online as free content: the download costs nothing, and the armor itself is bought from a merchant in White Orchard for 608 crowns.

Why these packs matter more in the Remastered than in 2015

This is the part that makes the guide worth reading today rather than treating it as a legacy checklist.

The Remastered adds Reforge, the appearance system this site covered separately, where you change an item's look without touching its stats. Per CD Projekt Red's change list, appearances unlock by adding new equipment and crafting diagrams to your inventory, and the menu only offers looks for gear you have already acquired.

That turns the sixteen packs from optional extras into the cheapest route to a full wardrobe. Every armor set, weapon, hairstyle and character skin in them is a permanent entry in the Reforge menu, and none of them costs crowns to unlock.
